Bertahun-tahun saya sering bertanya kepada orang-orang yang saya jumpai : "Apakah di keluarga Anda ada silisilah Keluarga?". Dan, jawaban mereka sangat mengejutkan :
a - Tidak punya, merasa tidak perlu dan tidak membuat Silsilah Keluarga.
b - Belum punya, artinya mereka mengerti dan membutuhkan, tapi belum membuat.
c - Sudah punya, dan terus mengupdate Silsilah Keluarga mereka.
Pengalaman saya, sangat menyenangkan dan pasti membahagiakan jika memiliki 'Buku Silsilah Keluarga' ini. Kira-kira tahun 2000 silam, saya sempat mampir ke sebuah warung Sate di kota Kediri, Jawa Timur, dekat kantor pos. Dan, ternyata pemiliknya adalah seseorang yang mempunyai Sebuah Buku Silsilah Keluarga yang dibuat sampai generasi ke 8, dimulai dari saat mereka berangkat dari negeri Cina! Luar biasa!
Bertahun-tahun, aku memendam kerinduan menjadi penulis / pembuat 'Buku Silsilah Keluarga' itu !
Fakta yang sangat menyedihkan, kudengar dari orang-orang yang kujumpai :
1. Seorang bapak berceritera kepadaku, bahwa dia tidak mengetahui seorang teman kerjanya (satu perusahaan) adalah family / keluarganya - selama 2 tahun mereka bekerja. Suatu hari, dia pulang kampung untuk mengurus KTP di desanya. Ternyata dia satu bis dengan teman itu. Untuk mengisi waktu, mereka ngobrol. Dan alangkah kagetnya waktu mereka tahu bahwa mereka menuju desa 'yang sama'. Dan, setelah mengetahui nama ibu atau nenek mereka, ternyata mereka masih berhubungan keluarga ! Dua tahun berlalu - - - tanpa tahu bahwa mereka sebenarnya masih bersaudara !
2. Beberapa orang mengaku bahwa dia hanya mengetahui siapa 'kakek-nenek'nya, tapi tidak jelas / lupa / tidak tahu = siapa saudara kakek-nenek mereka.
3. Satu keluarga telah kehilangan 'kakak dari nenek' mereka, kata nenek, kakaknya dulu pergi (= merantau) ke pulau Sumatera. Puluhan tahun berlalu, tidak ada seorangpun yang tahu keberadaan 'kakak nenek' mereka!

Anda pasti punya kisah mengenai 'silsilah keluarga' Anda. Jangan ragu-ragu untuk memulainya, jika Anda belum memiliki... mulailah hari ini juga! Jika kita menulis hari ini, kelak akan berguna bagi generasi penerus kita = anak dan cucu-cucu kita ! Jangan biarkan mereka tidak mengetahui siapa keluarga mereka, semuanya!
1. Gunakan buku biasa, tidak harus serba komputer.
2. Catat nama orang-orang di dalam keluarga Anda yang Anda kenal.
3. Usahakan membuatnya seperti bagan / kotak-kotak :
KAKEK - NENEK
AYAH - IBU
ANDA - dan saudara-saudara Anda, dan ISTRI ANDA (jika sudah menikah)
ANAK ANDA - jika Anda sudah menikah
4. Nama-nama yang belum Anda ingat / ketahui, tetap sediakan sebuah kotak kosong buat mereka. Jika belum tahu, tulis dengan kata-kata Anda sendiri, misalkan "adik kakek di kota Malang", atau "Paman di Jakarta". --> nama-nama ini menjadi 'pr' buat Anda. Cari informasi selengkapnya : nama, alamat, nomor telepon, dsb.
5. Tidak usah menunggu data-data itu sudah lengkap, informasikan ke seluruh nama-nama itu, bahwa Anda berniat membuat 'Buku Silsilah Keluarga'. Bagikan tugas kepada mereka untuk menambah informasi-informasi yang berguna di 'Buku Silsilah Keluarga' itu (selanjunya saya sebut BSL).
6. Secara berkala, gali terus informasi2 dari mereka semua (walaupun ada yang menanggapinya dengan dingin - cuek - pro-kontra, dsb) ke dalam BSL itu.
7. Jika sudah mulai 'lengkap', mulailah kita membuatnya dengan lebih rapi, mempublikasikan (mencetak / memfoto-copy)nya dan selalu bagikan BSL itu ke keluarga kita, dengan memberi himbauan = gunakan BSL ini untuk hal-hal yang mempererat hubungan kekeluargaan semua anggota !
NEXT STEP
Banyak software / program komputer yang mendukung dibuatnya BSL ini menjadi lebih rapi - indah dan sangat menarik. Anda juga bisa mencari beberapa tempat di kota Anda yang bisa membantu membuatkannya, misalnya : tempat pengetikan komputer (jika Anda kurang fasih menggunakan komputer). Tidak ada batasan / acuan khusus memilih program atau bentuk BSL Anda!

Usia 74 tahun masih bekerja
Seorang bapak, tua umur 74 tahun kutemui hari Senin yg lalu (4/1/2010) saat dia bekerja di tetangga: jadi tukang batu! Gila, seusia itu masih sanggup bekerja keras?
Dia mengaku, baru saja REUNI keluarga, dan menemukan 2500 anggota keluarga besarnya! Luar biasa! Amazing! Ternyata memang harus ada yang mencatat hal-hal itu!
